+1 Looks like the marriage ring....Output from trans to T-case ring, AKA, the marriage ring.

Most likely the issue is a bad U-joint at the T-case or bad double cardan joint at the T-case causing vibrations to resignate back into the T-case marriage ring.

I know the 4.7 has it, but i looked on my 5.9 and it looks like the transfer case just bolts right up to the tranny.

No!

There is a transmission output shaft tail housing, that is what it is called. You mark and remove the rear U-Joint at the differential. Then you slide the driveline off the transfer case output shaft. Remove the T-case linkage, wiring, bolts, and mount, and pull out the T-case. Now remove the other side of the broken tail shaft housing. Replace and reinstall.

While you have it out would be a great time to install a new transmission output shaft seal and T-case input seal.

Here, only because I feel nice tonight....LOL: http://www.dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-...ghlight=output

Im geussing this is kinda a self explanatory question, but.. Will a output shaft tailhousing fit from a 4.7 or 5.2? or does it have to be from a 5.9?

The 5.2 might fit, a 4.7 definitely will not work. A tailshaft from a 46re in any vehicle that year should work, like a ram or dakota but not 100% sure.

I think they have different output shafts, so with that said I don't think it would work, but AI may be incorrect. I would get one off a Durango, Dakota, or a Ram, all in 4X4. Make sure it is a 5.9L motor and 1997-2003.
