Default Check Engine Light is on. How do I find out what is wrong?

Truck still runs great and has no more problems that I can tell. all fluids are fine etc.

Anyone in Chicago have a way to check codes? Or can I do it myself?

Take it to pretty much any mechanic there In Chicago, or you could order a code reader yourself on Amazon. They run from roughly 250$+ but could be worth it if you do a lot of code running.

Not certain but you may be able to do the "Key Dance" to see the code.
On / off / on /off / on and leave it on. Your odometer should show the code that has tripped your CEL. With that, do a search online to see what that is or post it here, someone will have a list of codes.

Really? Is that forward or back with the key?

Yes, but dont turn the D on. Just turn it to the on position twice and keep it in the on position on the third, look at your miles and thatll be the code. Year 2000 and up do it.

that is forward to the position where everything is on, one click shy of starting the truck, if it tries to start you turned too far

also you can get a code reader off amazon for like $30-$80 that will do more than most people need.
