correction SOME Ds starting in 01(im not sure if this is right, but its the first time i know for a fact that the chip keys were available) use chip keys, my 2002 does NOT have a chip key

easy way to tell check the color of you key, gray means its a chip key, black ones are not.

Mine's got the gray chip key, and I've seen the chip reader in the column when I had the covers off of the column when I took the dash out. All 2001's I've personally seen have the chip key, but it may have been optional?

it was definitely an optional feature, bc its one of the few options that my truck does not have, but i konw i dont have it bc any old place that cuts keys can cut new keys for my truck
