Default Shift Shaft Seal

So I looked at the transmission diagnostics sticky and noticed

Valve Body Manual Lever Shaft Seal Leaks/Worn - replace seal

Does anyone have the instructions to this procedure for a 1999 5.9 4x4? Is this the same as a "shift shaft seal" ? I took it to the Durango to the dealership and they said the shift shaft seal was leaking. I paid a pretty good price for the information. The dealer was looking for $550 to replace the seal. Any help as always is appreciated.

Thanks

Reading some more on this issue. Looks like it may be called a selector shaft seal.

So i took the Durango to a transmission shop they were able to replace 2 seals and the leak stopped. However since i have gotten it back it will not shift unless i hit 3k. Is there something like tv cable that maybe is not set correctly causing this behavior?

could be the TV cable, is more likely to be the transmission output speed sensor, on the tailshaft of the transmission

I c. Well a bit of bad luck i suppose but the transmission is leaking again.. ugh! I drove it back to the transmission shop to have them look at it again. I am thinking the way he took out the seals maybe a cable needs adjusted now. It shifted perfectly before the seal was changed, as soon the new seal was put in it started to shift with high rpm. I will ask him to look at the output sensor.

Just got the durango back from the shop. The tech there said that when he changed the seal he did not totally pay attention to the throttle spring and that it was not connected correctly. This is what was causing my 3k shifting problem. The leaking problem was still coming from the shift shaft seal after he did the initial replacement. Since it was still leaking he installed a bigger seal that moved the seal up on the shift shaft. He did mention that the shift shaft has a little bit of movement and said that if it leaked he will have to do another repair to it.

Ok, quick Question. This seal you replaced.. Bare with me, Im not good with Transmissions, and still learning. I replaced the Solenoids on my truck when I got it, it was shifting HORRIBLE. Limp mode, the whole nine yards.. It ran great, and two months later, bad again. I had to drain and Clean those solenoids, and replace the fluid. Three months later, same thing. Now, I notice a leak! Someone poured stop leak in there, and I cant flush it, its a drop and clean, over and over.. Now, I noticed the leak is coming from ABOVE the pan.. Looks like were those plugs go through the case into the Valve Body and the solenoids wires come in.. Is this what you had replaced? I didnt know if there was a seal around those plugs? If so Im fairly sure that is what needs to be fixed to stop the leak. Thanks!

My leak was coming from where you select a gear for the transmission to go into. That seal according to dodge is known to leak and the seal repair did fix it. I will snap a pic and attach it later on tonight.
