Question 98 first to second shift

Hey all,

(if answers to this issue are already listed please redirect) When shifting from first to second, the trans wait until high rpm. I had found a broken kickdown cable and replaced it. I have been running under the assumption that I just haven't adjusted it properly. Issue is it seems so finite an adjustment (smallest adjustment makes a huge difference). I haven't been able to work on this for a few moths because of battery issues, but I will should have a new battery soon enough.

2 questions:
1. Which way is which on the adjustment?
2. What else could cause this issue?

i have been having some tranny issues as well. my problem was the governor pressure solenoid. which is what monitors the shifting. you should go and get the codes read if you got a check engine light on. and if so its a code # p1756 or p1757 that means that your at 3psi at 0mph. which means your gov pres solenoid is bad. i also know that a bad (tps) sensor and a bad (iac) valve can cause irratic shifting. i also replaced bolth of those.

Tranny fluid and filter should be changed at least every 30,000 miles! A clogged filter will lower the pressure and give you a p1756 code. low pressure will cause the vehicle to start off the line in 2nd or 3rd gear and burn out your tranny! regular maintenance goes a long way. I've got a Dakota with 210,000 miles on it with the original tranny. I also have a large tranny cooler on it too as I regularly tow 2,500lbs to 5,000. Ive towed as much as 6,700lbs for 100 miles. Never tow with overdrive on, the tranny fluid doesn't circulate to the tranny cooler then and it will over heat the fluid and burn out the tranny.

go check your facts buddy, any transmission filled with ATF+4(00 or 01+) is a 100k mile change interval and the filters will last plenty long enough in a transmission which is functioning properly.
