Default New motor or just fix this one

So I went to the store today. Left. Started up my truck and say for a minute so I could hook my phone to the radio and next thing I new I was in a cloud of smoke. Drive to auto zone real quick and bought some oil to add since I knew I was low. It still smokes a bit but not as bad as before. I'm wondering if I should bother replacing what's messed up or if I should just look for a new (or new to me) 5.9. Any suggestions? The current motor has right around 150k

depends on what the issue is (i know its burning oil, but WHY?) the 5.9 is known to be good for 300k miles (and then some) so it depends on where the oil was coming from and how much it will cost to fix.

Where did the smoke come from?

From under the hood your tailpipe? white smoke could of been a hose blowing off shooting out steam from radiator hose or burning oil a number of things could of caused this its deff worth looking into saving the engine you got

I would check the plenum and monitor oil consumption from there.

Its frOm the tailpipe. And I know my plenum needs to be replaced. Jut have yet to do it. In hoping it's just completely blown and it isn't a head gasket.

looks to me like its time to stop putting off the plenum and get it done, we can go from there after the repair is completed.

Should have gotten the Hughes engines plenum kit. It beefs it up so there's no more chance of it going bad again.

I wanted to but it's a little out of my price range right now. Worst case scenario is it happens again and by that point I should be better off financially and I'll do it again with that kit.
