Ok since this thread has taken off very nicely i have done some housekeeping on it the following rules apply to posting in this thread
1) This thread is for the discussion of the results from opening your oil filters (these results should be posted here first)
2) Pictures can be found here
3) when making comments on a specific post in the other thread please include quoted images from the other thread, or a link the appropriate post in the other thread. In this thread either click the quote button and then copy/paste the quoted text block into your post in this thread or paste a link to the specific POST (click the number in the top right corner of the post) cross posting photos in both threads is O.K.

nice pics. I'll be doing an oil change within the next few hundred miles do I'll try to remember to cut mine (purolator) apart too. My dad's wrangler will need it's oil changed too so hopefully I can cut his (fram tough guard) apart too.
I have cut open several in the last few years between my Corvette, Durango, and Wife's cars.
The conclusion I came to is two part. First, you get what you pay for. Cheap is cheap, and the more you pay for the filter the higher the quality of the internal components. Second, filter quality is almost unimportant past a certain level.
My Durango and Ram are old beater 360 engines that seem to enjoy abuse. They get cheap Wix filters because of the cheap filters, Wix had the best internal quality.
My Corvette has a 450 HP 405 built with tighter tolerances and it will be less tolerant of poorly filtered oil. I use Mobil1 or Amsoil on it.
Essentially, on these Dodge engines, I don't think it matters how cheap the filter is as long as there aren't internal failures due to cheap materials. You can spend the money on an expensive filter but IMHO they're wasted on these engines.

I prefer Wix but I use the Carquest brand and they seem to do well. I try to keep my oil changes at between 4 and 5k miles but sometimes have gone longer. I have been using Valvoline but I am looking at Mobil 1 for the next oil change. I will never use Pennzoil or Quaker State in any of my engines.

Wow, my dad hasnt changed his oil filter in 21,000 miles, the oil is good though. I figured I would change it for him, so I will cut it open when I do and see what it looks like. I bet that filter weighs 10 lbs!
