Default Gear Swaps 3.55 to 3.92

Hey all,

First post...

I just picked up a great condition 02 with 117K miles for towing my boat, I know with my current boat I'll be close to the tow capacity of 5300lbs. When I ran the build sheet the towing package wasn't included, however the previous owner had the class IV hitch, and electric brake hookup installed.

I checked briefly last night but didn't see a transmission cooler up front, from what I've read the factory cooler should be between the radiator and condenser?

I'd like to bump up the towing capacity, adding the transcooler if one isn't there and swapping gears to 3.92. I have a u-pull-it near me with lots of durangos, will a front and rear axle from same generation swap in?

Does the towing package include anything else?

if you have an 02 you would need the front axle from an 01-03, as for the rear axle you will need to say in 01-02 unless you want to do some brake work to make the disc brakes work. (2003 had rear disc brakes)

tow package included, trailer wiring, trans cooler, class IV hitch, 6x9 mirrors (heated, power and folding) 160amp alternator, higher capacity battery (750CCA, some trucks got it w/o the tow package too)

All the Durangos have trans coolers, the standard setup is to have it in the radiator, but with the towing or HD service package they had a separate one. Personally I'd look for a 2003 rear axle with the rear disk brakes if you can find it, the front, I'd say anything 2001 or newer for sure, some used a Dana axle instead of a Chrysler one before that, it might still work though.

So I can just cut the donor axle out(non-disc), and swap it in without any modification? No computer changes, brackets, etc, etc..

Thanks!

if you get the same axle ratio it should just bolt in from 2001 or 2002 no real cutting required
