Default deisel motor swap.

has anyone ever heard of someone pulling a 24 valve or a 12 valve 5.9 turbo deisel out of a ram and dropping it into a durango? if at all possible?
and if so, will there be any cutting and welding needed to be done?
cuz in the spring im doing a motor swap regardless, wether its the 5.9 v8 or the deisel.
if i got to do alot of cutting and welding then im not going to do it. cuz im taking a week off of work to do this in the spring. and if i can just swap it out wham bam. without cutting and welding, then ill be one darn happy camper. and i dont care about re wiring the truck. or anything like that.
plus it would be awesome to have a turbo deisel durango!!!!!

It can and has been done before with a Cummins but, to my understanding it takes alot of time, modding, and $$.. the biggest thing IIRC is the front end wont handle the weight of the diesel motor so you'll have to beef it up alittle.

the front suspension wont handle the weight, and you will have to move the firewall iirc. Its doable but far from a bolt in swap

well ****. lol. i guess ill stick to the 5.9 swap. maybe ill take it to machine shop and have it bored out 30 over with a stroker kit and cam it out. for some actuial power. or could i have them just bore the crap out of the 5.2.
would it be possible to bore it out to like 6.2 or 6.3 ltrs. i got to get some ideas flowin here. if any one has a suguestion let me know. cuz i want to have all the parts bought and ready for when i do it.
if there is any mechanics out there that specialize in motor builds, give me shout and give me some tips.
and if you know of any websites for like mopar pistons and cranks and cams.
thanks

You can bore and stoke a 5.2 to a 6.1 I believe with a kit

Be better to bore and stroke a 5.9L into a 408.

i was always under the impression that the 5.9 was a bored out 5.2. same engine block just different bore. but if thats the case then i can keep my motor in the d and just purchase a 5.9 used, and send it in to get bored and stroked and cammed. also with that said will i have to get a 46re tranny, instead of my 44re. and having it be that the 5.9 will be getting bored and stroked, with that extra power will i have to get the tranny "beefed up" to support that extra power?
and will there be any other work that needs to get done? like upgraded fuel pump or will the stock one work? and the pcm, that will have to get reflashed? or will i have to take it to a dyno and get it professionally tuned?
and on a side note are there any kits out there for this situation that include all parts and directions needed for it?
thanks!

The 44RE and the 46RE are basically the same transmission only differance is the 46RE is more heavy duty and it is geared differant. I assume the 46RE was that way for towing purposes.

Both the 5.2 and the 5.9 could be mated up with both transmissions.. it just depends on what you wish to do with your truck. If its gonna be a daily driver or a sunday driver to grandma you can use the 44RE but, if you plan to tow some regularly might not be a bad idea to upgrade to a 46RE.

the 5.2 and 5.9 blocks are very similar but far from identical, the 5.9 will bore out to a larger displacement than the 5.2, if you get a 5.9 it will run w/ the 5.2, but not to its full potential, i would look for a correct PCM.

as for the trans, i wouldnt do the swap right away, but i would be saving up to do the swap when the 44 starts acting up, especially if you tow, as stated above if you dont tow you likely wont kill the 44 if you maintain it.

cool thats exactly what i wanted to hear. so i need to find a 5.9 that hasnt been ceased, and hope i can find a pcm for the 5.9 as well.
and as far as towing goes, i only really tow wood during the end of the summer begining of fall. cuz i got a wood stove in my house. and a few times a year if i take my boat out. but thanks for the tranny advice. great to know.
thanks again.
