Default Engine upgrade?

So I really just have a quick question. I have a 98 Durango SLT 5.2 I'm getting ready to buy a second engine to rebuild on my own time and not worry about loosing my ride. I want more power so i was wondering If I bought a 5.9 would I also need to get the computer with it or would my computer work on the 5.9?

The computer also needs to match the truck, but there's an easy solution that will kill a second bird you haven't thought of.

Custom tune.

There's a forum member, Hemifever, who sells custom tunes on a tuner that you plug in and install yourself. Basically, build your 360. I recommend the 360 computer but that may not be needed, and contact Hemifever about his offerings. Not only will it set the engine up for your Durango but it will also optimize that 360...which is computer controlled, and you'll get more than you could with just an engine build.

Thank you Snooper for the quick reply. Once I get to that point I'll talk to Hemifever and get his input.

the computer from your 5.2 WILL run the 5.9 block, however it will NOT run it to its full potential.

If i did decide to rebuild a 5.9 and get a computer and what not would the transmission work on it as well. I'm trying to cover all of my bases before i start my project.

the transmission you have will work fine with either engine most of the tranmission on the 5.2/5.9 is mechanical/hydraulic
