Default Help! Electric fan

My 02 SXT started running a little warm today....turns out I could not hear the electric fan when I got out of the truck....had the air conditioner and it was still blowing cold air no problem....but I did not hear the usual hum of the electric fan. After I got home...looked at it...the fan spins freely no problem. Started the truck back up...and engaged the fan and it actually comes on...but it sounds like...hard to describe...like there is something in the fan or a blade hitting something...its not real loud...but apparently the fan it not reaching its usual speed...it sounds weird...I really don't know what to do. I can get a replacement fan online for like 70 bucks, but is this something I can do? How do I get the fan shroud off to get to the fan to change it out?

Update....well my electric fan is for sure on it's way out...I went ahead and threw my clutch fan back on...and all is well now. Luckily I stored the fan right-side up all this time...before I had realized earlier what was going on...my temp reading went way up...close to 3-quarters over on the gauge....was stuck in the drive-thru...finally got out and shut it off for a little bit. It was never steaming and no coolant loss...but it probably ran warm like that for 10 or 15 mins before I shut it off. I know the 4.7's can easily get blown head gaskets from too much heat...what do you guys think? Again now that I have my clutch fan back on it is fine and running cool...and sounds fine and drives fine...hope I did not do any kind of damage!

the 4.7s are no more likely to blow a headgasket than any other engine, if you ran it all the way up on the gage id be worried as long as it stayed in the two center hash marks you are probably fine.

Yeah I was tooling around town today and its fine...no problems at all...went ahead and had the oil changed though...it was due anyway. Absolutely love my squeeking front end though...after I already dumped $1000 into ball joints and tie-rods and hub bearings and sway bar links..but still sounds like an old farm truck going down the road!
