Default Over heating

Hey guys,, My son just got a 99 D with the 5.2 eng in it,, Seems to be over heating slow,, I found out that there is not a thomasat in it,, Waterpump seems to be pumpin good that I can tell,,, I thinkin that the head gasets mite be bad on it,, Seems like somebody did put something in the radiader to keep something from leaking,, The old owners told my son that it don't over heat an runs good but they only had it for about 2 month,, They did put a new radiator in it,, Wondering if I did check the P.S.I. on it to see how it looks,, Motor dose run great an its a very good lookin D,, I did flush the motor an all out good an got great flow from water comein out of hose,, No oil in water an everything looks good with the fluids,, Just woundering if there is any other thing I should check before even thinkin that it mite be a head gaset thats bad,,, Thanks,,

First i would start by getting a 180 t-stat in there... i would also try a new radiator cap as the old one many not be allowing it to build pressure...

If there is no water in the oil or a a decent loss in coolent would say that its a very slim chance that the head gasket is shot. There is a test out there to test the head gasket but, i have never done it personally so i don't know much about it. IMO, i would suspect the water pump or radiator cap before the head gasket.

Ok Thanks oldschool I did put a new thomostat in it today after flushin the motor out,, I refilled the radiator with antifreeze an so far it is doing great, The temp gage is at the same place my 98 D is,, I ment to put a 180 in but was a 195,,, Drove it for an hour an everything is doing fine so far,, I wouldn't think water would blow out the over flow because there wasn't a thomostat in it,, But I will drive it for couple days an see how it dose before I turn my son loose with it,,lol

195 is what they rolled out of the plant with so i wont hurt it at all... most people put in the 180 for less heat reasons. Hopefully that will do it for ya and it will keep it cool.
