Default transmission shift solenoid

Is the transmission shift solenoid also called the transmission controll solenoid. And are either one or both of these called the lock out and overdrive solenoid.

In short, no. A shift solenoid is just that. It is used to cause a shift in the transmission (could be an up or down shift). A "control" solenoid is a vague term but usually means a pressure control solenoid. A lock-up (not lock out) solenoid is used to lock the torque converter creating a "direct drive" situation from the flywheel to the tranny. An overdrive solenoid is used to engage the overdrive gears.

Default interlock

My tranny thru a code for the shift solenoid. Would that be the shift interlock solenoid. When I called the garage and told them I already replaced it (replaced the trans controll solenoid cause when I looked the shift solenoid up it gave me this part) and he asked me if I changed both of them (having hard enough problem finding 1 let alon e there be 2). Where is the shift solenoid located (picture would be nice but not required)

Which transmission are we talking about here? If it is the 46RE you show in the 2000 D 5.9L it only has one shift solenoid. The 46RE has three solenoids: Governor Pressure, TCC (lock-up), and overdrive (which is actually the 3-4 shift solenoid). The TCC and OD solenoids are really two solenoids in one unit. Shifting (except for OD) is controlled by governor pressure, the throttle valve, and various other valves. What is the code? If it is the 0753 code, it's the OD solenoid or associated circuitry. The solenoid you replaced was probably the governor pressure solenoid. You can see the TCC/OD solenoids here:

Thanks. It is the 46re transmission. Took the parts to the Dodge dealer and found out exactly what I changed. I changed the overdrive solenoid, the governor and the transducer. Already changed the speed sensor. At my wits end so I took it the garage to have it diagnosed by a real machine. Will know something tonight. Thanks for your help. God Bless.
