2000 Durango: CPK Location and Problems
The crankshaft sensor monitors position and speed of the crankshaft, and thereby the piston position. The camshaft sensor monitors position and speed of the camshaft and thereby the position of the valves. The ECM uses data from both to determine ignition timing....in a nutshell.
And to answer your original questions, the Crank sensor will be on the block. The exact position depends on the engine in question. Symptoms of a failing sensor would be similar to a timing problem in an old distributer system, ie...misfiring, stalling, rough idle, failing to start.

Ok i seeing online the part is 52.00$ but where is it located on the engine i'm hearing it's on top of the transmission i never worked on a durango far as that so is it the crank shaft or the camshaft .that's keeping it from cranking the ,crankshaft sensor is the 8th alphabet y sensor IT'S THE 5.2 LITER ENGINE 2000
