Default Rear end problems?

so about a week ago i had a tire blow out on me and ive just gotten around to getting a new one put on the rim, Well after i snugged down the lugs a good bit and lowered it off of its jack stands and took a good tug on a T-wrench the whole wheel shifted inward almost like it had a side to side play. so i lifted it back up on the stands and it had a good bit of play, up down, left right, in and out. Both sides are like this, ive had a whining noise coming from the rear end for about a month now.

this in on a 99 D 4x4 slt.

any ideas as to what it could be? or if its something to worry about? THANKS!!!!

Check your outer wheel bearings. Check inside your diff too

if you have play in the wheel you should STOP DRIVING THE TRUCK IMMEDIATELY, its very not safe to drive if there is up/down side to side play in bearings or the rim is a pretty major problem

Even if its minor play I would still park it

+2 any movement in the wheels (other than how there suppost to move) should warrant a immediate parking... Or you could just drive it till the wheels fall off then you wont have a choice but i would not advise that.

If the wheels do fall off, make sure you get us lots of pics so we can at you....

My rear end needs work bad, the wheel bearings, my pinion seals starting to leak, and i think i got some water in the diff from my little "lets bury my truck to the floorboard" game. Good thing i kept my bike Ive never done anything to the rear end of my truck other then that little speed sensor on top the diff. say the wheel bearings are the problem, are they hard to do? ive done the front ones on an old z71 a while back. My truck will be parked haha u guys got me scared Thanks guys!

and also just so i know in the future are the rear wheels supposed to have any play in them?

There shouldn't be any play. They aren't to bad. Requires some differential disassembly. And a slide hammer for the bearings.

If you had water in your diff I would definitely do all the bearings since the outers are so shot and you have to do the pinion seal anyways.
