Default A few Qs on the Durango:

By DEC hopefully we will be trading in our caravan. I am researching the Magnum(have already posted their) and the Durango. If we got the durango we would get the Limited 4X4 with the Hemi, the magnum we would get RT-AWD. It will be harder to convince my mom to get the durango because when we rented one in cali my dad crashed it(not that bad) but now my mom is acting like she has PTSD and that she couldn't get it. Anyway, I have a few Qs:

1. Has anyone actually managed to roll this over?
2. How well does it handle(I'm not expecting much, but between this and the caravan)
3. With NAVI do you get a rear view monitor?
4. How well do that backup sensors work?
5. How well does this get around in the snow(assuming we got the VSA/TCS/ESP/whatever dodge calls it package)
6. Any cronic problems?
7. Are there any plans to put on a rear independent suspension?
8. Still no HIDs?
9. How hard is it to parallel park?
10. What is the Hemi's compression ratio(I want to know if it will take regular without a problem)
11. What the milage people are getting(with the hemi and 4X4)?
12. What are some recomended packages?
13. How long is this nearly too good to be true 8k off thing gonna last?
Thanks, Mike

5. EXCELLENT
6. Not that I am aware of
7. Dunno
8. You can get aftermarket ones no problem.
9. Not if you can drive
10. Yes it will take regular with no problem
11. Not good, 12-13 city, but c'mon man, you are buying a Durango, obviously you dont care about gas mileage.
12. Get it loaded!!
13. I hear they are going to keep it until the other manufacturers cut their rebates and discounts.

Sorry I couldn't answer all of them but I am going off my brothers truck. I have an 03 R/T he has an 05, loaded.

I want to re-answer your question 10. Not all Durango R/T's will use regular. Depending on year model and where the Durango R/T is sold, it may take regular, or it may require Premium. My 2000 R/T requires premium. Says so in the book and on my fuel door. But "Last of the R/T"'s 2003 model uses regular. This fact is for the 1st generation Durangos. No hemi's offered for 1st generation Durango R/T's from 98-03. Unless you are talking about a 2nd generation Durango. There is no R/T model available for 2nd generation Durangos yet.

Questions 3 and 4. Not available and have to be aftermarket. Assuming you are talking about 1st generation R/T models. However, I take that back. Question 4, they did make a navigation deck option but at a cost of around $1800 from dealer. Cheaper to get aftermarket. Again, I am talking about first generation R/T models.

As for regular fuel with the HEMI (which means 2nd generaton, not the previous R/Ts) they run just fine. Dual plugs for the street rocks. A bit of racing efficiency carried to the street.

It handles surprisingly well, and I am getting around 17 mpg with the HEMI and AWD city, around 23 on the highway. That is assuming you can keep your foot out of the water pump. My wife gets about half that, but she seems to drive it like it's stolen lol.

There aren't really any major problems with these vehicles. A search for bulletins on Mitchell on demand shows exactly zero.

As for parallel parking, I am used to big cars so it was a snap for me. My wife is 5'0 and has a little trouble getting used to the size and she has to raise her seat up so she can see better. Then she is pretty darn good. No wrinkled fenders yet.

Just my 2 cents...

Jeff

Wow, I have never seen gas mileage like that, especially out of the HEMI version.

As far as the premium/regular issue, my manual and fuel door DOES require premium but I am sorry, I am not paying near 100 dollars to fill up my truck therefore I have been using regular for almost a year now with no difference in performance at all. Now I have heard a few guys say that they could feel the difference in the performance and simple running around town when using a different grade but I have not noticed any at all, guess I lucked out!
