Exclamation 2000 Durango Repair or Replace

I just recently blew my transfer case while driving on the freeway (completely destroyed). When it blew it left a sizeable dent in the floor right in front of the driver's seat and actually blew a relative small hole in the floor. The blow also ripped out the under belly protector also (protecting transfer case). The drive shaft is still intact and still connected to what's left of the transfer case.
My engine has a blown gasket and survived through the damage above, more than likely though I am considering replacing the whole engine, transmission and transfer case completely. I'm running a budget of around $15k +/- 2k and was wondering if I would rather spend the money fixing/replacing above or spending it on a used car?
The truck has 215,900 miles on it and this is the first problem I've had with it. Its more than 95% that I will buy a new car however I'm curious to find out what full parts/labor/bodywork will bring up.
(my terminology may be wrong ie transfer case)

Personally if i had a budget of 15K i would find a nice newer used durango and part out the old one. I have seen a few 03's in my area going for 3k-4k from private sellers.

+1 on parting it out, don't just junk it. You could probably get scrap price just out of the drive train alone - the t case of course
