2K Dango and Belt Tensioner replacement need Help/Directions/Advice
Hello everyone its been a long time since my last post. I have been overseas in S. Korea with the 2ID and I can tell you this is great to be back in America driving my dango.
My Dango started squeaking really bad like it was the belt, I added some belt dressing and it only made it worse. I took it to a shop and they said it was the tensioner but were going to charge me about $210+ for parts and labor. My haynes book is still in overseas shipping with my household goods so I do not have any ideas or notes on how to remove the Belt Tensioner. Any ideas or help. I know this cant be too hard or is it?
Thanks for any help.

Boy if this isn't a timely post. I have my 2K Durango over at the dealership because of the same thing and becasue I may have trashed a new radiator off roading yesterday. I didn't hear back from the shop with a quote today but I'll pst when I do if it's the tensioner. Mine may bee the water pump though and that might be better than a new radiator. Just for fun, make certain it's the tensioner and not a water pump with a failing bering.
Last year I changed out my fan clutch and waterpump. Saved a few dollars on that, so I know a belt tensioner couldnt be to hard. Well I got tired of trying to figure this replacement. So I opted to go to a the Firestone Auto Service and see what they may charge me. It was ridiculous! $210. + for parts and labor. I headed to Schucks, purchased the tensioner/new belt and received a 10% discount on purchase (military). Saw a small mechanic shop they said it was a easy job less than 20 mins and charged me only $20 for labor. I couldve have saved $20 on labor but it was more easier to pay the guy and wait a few minutes. Sad thing is during the fix they also did a quick under body inspection and saw that my rack and pinion is slightly leaking! Sh?T what more?
Good Luck on your fix!!!

It only has 1 bolt on it. You can do it in 5 min. Just go buy the whole thing not just the pulley and bearing. (THE WHOLE THING) ARM AND ALL! www.rockauto has a good deal on them or Bradshaw auto parts where the best deal. I only paid $50 for mine. The thing is that not only the bearing could be bad but the spring in the arm is most likely bad, so just replace the whole thing. Put a wrench on the middle of the pulley and move it forward to relive the pressure. Take off the belt and remove the bolt securing it to the head. Replacement is in the opposite order.
Well for me it was the water pump and that SOB cost a ton to have the dealer do. I may have to rethink my fondness for the dealer a bit. $127 for the water pump and labor to do the work was $518 with the radiator flush, pressure test and a new serpantie belt I was out the door for $875. I think I need to find a trust worthey local shop. Oh yeah and they found a leak coming from the transfer case. Not sure what that will entail but it can't be good.
