Recall Help or insight - 2001 Dodge Durango
Hi,
Pardon my ignorance - not sure if I'm in the right area or what the difference is between threads & posts or how to post.
Anyway, my husband used to belong to Dodge Forum so I'm assuming this is the site. He may have gone under the name of 'Ugg'.
He passed away and I am very lost.....
**** 2001 Dodge Durango 5.9 RT
Problem: Last fall, I had to sink a lot of money into this truck. Now, I just got it back from repair yesterday....rear differential, driveshaft, wheel cylinders, brake line adapter & brake lines.
It now has to go back in for: upper & lower ball joints & wheel bearings.
Why would all of this be going bad? Are there recalls on any of this (although, I'd assume they wouldn't honor since didn't take to Dodge.)
I recall something about ball joints. I think some of it was under recall & my husband had it done & later told them it was still bad & they insisted it wasn't.
Lastly, years back someone (in another state) was doing cold air induction systems...I remember, we had a bunch of Dodge owners here & did a barbeque. It was like an assembly line! Does anyone know who this person was? Long story short....filter replaced w/general high performance & pipe replaced/modified...eventually wouldn't stay on....so now, I have no air filter, pipe & possibly top of assembly not good.
Sorry so long winded. This was my husband's dept. & as much as I did listen....just never retained....just always thought he'd be here.

I am so so sorry for your loss. I dont know to much as im new to the durango's myself. but yes the ball joints were under recall. as for wheel bearing i would go and get a second opinion. unless this is a very trusted mechanic this shop may just be trying to get money out of you and take advantage of you
Sorry for your loss. +1 at what duralude said. Also if your air filter has come disconnected from your intake hose you need to get that fixed fast. Sucking in dirt will ruin your engine.

Sorry for your loss also.... what area are you in? maybe there might be a member that is close to you that might be able to help you out or point you to the right shop that can get you fixed up...
depending on the mileage on your truck some of this stuff is normal wear items, there was a recall on the UPPER balljoints for 01-03 MY trucks, however if it was performed once it will not be honored again. Wheel bearings do not normally go bad, and do not normally go bad in pairs, if you do have one (or two) that are bad you will hear it in the truck while driving, they make a whining/grinding sound which will change tone/pitch/volume (any/all of the above) when you make turns.
Unfortunatley balljoints are a common failure point on these trucks so better to change them out for a set of moogs to be safe
