I tried that today, no clearance

I love my 5.9l. My uncle had it before me and I got it when he bought a newer D with the 4.7l. He missed the power but loved the fuel economy. Power is a big thing for me and since I got my grand prix it sits and is only used for heavy use so gas isn't to big of an issue. It all depends on what you want to do. Like shrps said the aftermarket for the 5.9l is bigger. Either way I would take the 5.9l but I have towed heavier things, 7-9k lbs, so if I didn't tow that I couldn't justify it (rationally).

Everything I've heard says that the 4.7 doesn't have any sludge problems if you slack on the maintenance. I still prefer the 5.2 and 5.9 for their simplicity and reliability.

We just got our 2nd Durango, this one has the 5.9 against the 4.7 in the other. For me it's a toss up. The 4.7 has been very reliable for us, runs great and has plenty of power. I actually love the ignition and injection setup on it. More parts and different tech with the coil overs and such but it's an excellent performer. That being said, now having the 5.9 we're shocked at how different it is, this newer Durango is a beast. Plus, as mentioned, there's a lot more going in the after market......5.9 for me
