Default engine code po442

2003 Durango check engine came on and code PO442 came up [Evap leak monitor medium leak detected ] . What does it mean and how do I check it ?

it means that there is a leak in the evap emissions system, could be as simple as a bad gas cap, or a cracked evap hose (search the forum, there are write ups on replacing the common hose sections) or the charcoal canister could be shot,

Thanks . I was thinking the a/c system . This makes sense and I hope is a lot cheaper fix .

Well , the hoses were good so I checked gas cap and found my wife did not put it on tight when she gassed up . Reset and have had no C E L in four days now . Think that must have been it .

Might be a possibility. Give a few more days it takes that code awhile to come back. If it comes back then you might need a leak detection pump or maybe a hose a small leak. But hopefully youre good or its just a hose.
