my 2000 durango
I have a issue with my suv and i was told it is my overdrive sensor . But heres the problem i have park, revise, drive, Manuel 1st and 2nd but when im in drive and it gets though certin gears it stops shifting and the rpms just go up and i have to put my suv in Manuel 2nd gear to drive my car. Does this sound like the overdrive sensor and if so where is it located at. If not what do you think it possibly could be I want to get it fixed asap and i have no idea where it is located and if this is even the problem if you could please help me i would greatly be greatful cause i have a two and three year old and im tried of riding thr bus just to go to the store. Thank you so much for your time with reading this.

ill move this to the first gen section, but we need more information from you specficially which transmission you have, if you dont know that then tell us which engine is in the truck

+1 we need more info as it could be several issues....
1. When you say the rpm's "just go up" do you mean they go up to a maybe 2500-3000 or do you mean the truck redlines (5000-6000 rpm's) till you shift it into manual 2nd?
2. These trucks don't have a overdrive sensor, they have a overdrive solenoid and depending on what transmission you have it is most likely located in the transmission itself. The PCM (computer) uses several different inputs to determine when to shift into overdrive.

Sounds exactly like what happened to mine (2001 4.7). 4th gear went, then 3rd. Got these codes: P0733-GEAR RATIO ERROR IN 3RD and P1790-FAULT IMMEDIATELY AFTER SHIFT. Ended up being the overdrive solenoid and something else and a used transmission with 1 year warranty was swapped in. 5000 miles later still no problems(knock on wood). By "just go up" I'm assuming she means it will shift 1st to 2nd then as MPH slowly increase, the RPMs will steadily rise like what would happen if you weren't upshifting with a manual transmission. At least that's how mine reacted when 3rd and 4th were gone.
