Default Driver window Repair

I am posting this to see if any of you have had this happen before. Up until this I have had no problems with any of the windows other than the safety lock out for passengers does not work, nor any signs of potential problem. Ran errands came home parked the D. My son came out later to drive to a friends house and the driver window was down (was up when I parked it). He texts me saying the window was down and could not get it to come up when pushing switch. He could hear motor but window won't come up. The window is down far enough in the door he can't grab it to pull it up. I read the sticky's and it sounds like it could be several situations. Just trying to get and idea of the problem and decide which way to attack it.

you have to open the door panel up to see which of the possible issues it is,

it could be . . .

1) a broken cable guide
2) a broken cable
3) window slipped off the track

these are the most common, and the only way to know which is to remove the door panel and look

Thanks shrpstr325. I was going to work on it today but it has been raining all day. Unfortunatly I don't have a shop or garage to work in. After all the screws have been removed from the panel you lift up on the panel to remove it correct?

I am now on my 3rd windows regulator on my driver's door window. All other doors still has the oem regulator. I guess it is because the driver windows gets used the most!

My bet is the plastic retaining clip holding the cable on the track broke. The cable is part of the entire windows regulator assembly. So far, there is no known rigging that will work to have the cable re-attached to the track. Plastic assembly where cable is hooked to the track is completed broken.

You will have to replace the entire assembly (motor included). I have yet to find any replacement windows regulator assembly without motors. Now I have some spare windows regulator motors lying around my workbench in the garage.

Rarely if ever the windows will come off the vertical track. The glass itself is bolted on to the bracket and the bracket rides on the vertical track being pulled by a cable.

Cable will come off long before the window ever decides to come off the vertical track.

The windows regulator assembly for the driver side door will run you about $60-$80 new from just about any good online auto parts store.

Kensai, you win the prize! It was the plastic retaining clip. I could not figure out what it was but after looking at photo's of regulator and your reply that is what happened. I have a new Dorman regulator with motor from Rock Auto in transit as I type this. Total cost was $65.47 which includes the shipping. Part was $56.99 and $8.48 shipping. Local auto parts wanted $100+ some change. I am not in hurry I just pulled window into position and taped it to the door frame. I will do repair when part arrives. Also the panel removal which I was dreading was quite simple I must say along with the help from some great folks on this site...Thanks Everyone. I am also going to attempt the master lock out switch repair I saw on here using a jumper wire. My children are grown so I am not concerned that much with spending $125 for new switch panel so I will try quick repair.
