Default Some info from a guy who knows just enough to be dangerous...

Hello,

I bought my first V8 Dodge-a 2000 Durango R/T about three months ago. This is probably common knowledge to many, but it wasn't to me: resetting the PCM anytime you change anything affecting air, fuel or spark.

I replaced the cap, rotor, wires, IAC sensor, TPS sensor, MAP sensor on my Dodge--and got WORSE performance (power and mileage) after.

I came across a post on here about resetting the PCM after making any one of the single changes I mentioned.

After doing so, my old Durango was transformed. The acceleration was much improved all across the rpm range, the idle is smooth and stable and I'm finally getting @ 17 mpg on the highway.

All my changes made things worse, not better without resetting the PCM. I didn't know any better, thought others (non-mechanics, such as myself) may not know either.

Best,

Heekma

that's some good info. some times its not being a mechanic that makes the difference, its knowing the different things that make a type of vehicle do what it does, seams like every different brand has its own little quirts on how to fix and what to check. that's what makes up all the different forums , if its a ford ask the ford guys, if its a dodge ask the dodge guys...places like this can save a lot of money and time for everyone..and me myself thank everyone here for that ...
