Lifting the D and setting up for off road fun NJ
After a new tranny finally got the truck back up in working. Im totally ignorant to this topic so thought i would ask here. Looking to lift the truck maybe wider tires and a sturdy off road set up. Not looking to break the bank either. was wondering if you guys can point me in the right direction thanks.

I do Jeeps off-road, but am not familiar with D's off-road. In general...
1) Don't go off-road alone. It is expensive to call a tow vehicle to get you unstuck.
2) Be sure you have good tow points front and rear. If you have a 2" receiver hitch, they make nice hooks that plug in.
3) Carry a 20' or 30' "****** strap" and a couple D rings to use with it (#1 uses it with #2).
4) Look into skid protection for things underneath (I'm not familiar with what a D needs for that).

The torsion/shackle lift will give you 2" and beyond that you could get a body lift for an additional lift of between 3"-5" (can't remember which).
The torsion shackle lift just requires turning the torsion bars 8 more turns and adding lift shackles to the rear leafs. An alignment will be necessary afterwards.

For yours your stuck with cranking the torsions and body lift. I had 33/12.5/15 with just the bars cranked. Don't get the 12.5 they rub stick with 10.5 or 11.5. See my build on Cardomain under lvphotos, or here under "show your d, anything goes "
2" torsion/shackle with a 3" body lift. You can then fit 33x12.50 under it. Some have pushed 35's but they tend to do a lot of trimming or have lots of rub. The front diff doesn't like 35's that much (or so I've read on multiple forums). Get some rims with less backspacing. As far as underbody protection goes find a D in a junk yard with factory skid plates on the front diff and transfer case and ****** them up. I recently took mine and painted them up with chassis paint, you'd be amazed at how beat up they get. Lastly get some good shocks, trust me it helps a lot for maintaining control, especially at speed.
