RPM during moderate acceleration?
This is probably a somewhat ambiguous question, but any discussion is appreciated. Anyone know what a normal RPM range for my 4.7L during a 0 to ~55 moderate acceleration would be? (on a major road but not highway speeds).
If I let it rev up to around 3k before each shift, I seem to be moving slightly slower than the traffic around me. Considering the truck weighs quite a bit, I wouldn't expect the 4.7 to be such a swift engine, but lately I feel like I have to punch it to keep up.
Mods include: K&N CAI (77 series I believe), 27" Magnaflow muffer, BBK 70mm throttle body, and Superchips Fastpaq 91 octane tune
I'm assuming i've either lost enough low-end torque to make acceleration feel different or I need to attend to some age-related engine issue. Any ideas?

I dont know what your normal RPM range is but on my 98 5.2 I have rarely if ever seen the RPMs over 2k but then I dont know that Ive ever checked that on the highway. But I can tell you that your 4,7L has more HP than my 5.2L the 5.2 has 230 HP the 4.7 came later (obviously) and has 235HP. Altho I have never towed anything with it I can say that the 5.2L has no problem with picking up speed and or handling snow (provied you have 4x4) we have had a couple snow storms recently here in NH and I havent had a problem. I know this wasnt much help.....but its a start I hope you have an easy solution soon.

normal acceleration for me w/ the 4.7 keeps it around 2k rpm, 2.5 at the most, 3k+ is really getting on it for me, being it is an older, heavier vehicle it doesnt keep up w/ the newer cars anymore, but its not being left behind that badly either.
If I really want to get going it can sometimes get up to 4500 RPM from these stupid onramp stoplights we have here in Denver. Definitely not slow in my eyes, with it floored mine still get from 0-60 somewhere around or just under 9sec. I'm not too worried about letting it rev. that high, as it has no blowby (slight, and I mean very very slight suction if you put your hand over the oil fill cap opening with it running) and doesn't use any oil, so the engine is still in good shape. Usually when I drive normally acceleration gets to about 3500 rpm at the highest. I never really feel like mine has any trouble keeping up with newer vehicles.
Thanks for the replies,
I guess I should also attribute my situation slightly to the fact that I live on LI, and mostly everyone around here drive like lunatics to begin with

I sure don't have any problems keeping up with new cars at all, in fact I'm quicker than a lot of new cars.
Normal acceleration for my 5.2 is between 2000-2500 rpm, up to 3000 rpm for pulling out quickly into traffic, and occasionally upwards of 4000 rpm to get onto the highway in certain situations (getting around ******* truckers who don't move over to let traffic out even though there are 2 empty lanes next to them).

I also really have not had any problems around my area with my truck...111,000 miles now on my 4.7 and man it is really running good. Been running synthetic in the motor now for almost 5 years...have a CAI installed with a superchips tuner and original 40 flowmaster exhaust and I just got brand new tires with a lot of grip...yet I can about roast the rears from a dead stop or by just flooring it in 3rd going down the road about 25 mph or so...I know the cold weather helps...honestly I have messed around with some of the new mustangs and I don't know if they were just messing with me...but I have always either stayed with them and even pulled ahead of a couple....course mine is a 2wd SXT....no running boards or over head console and other options that came on the 4wd SLT's....so I supposed I'm rolling a little lighter as well....
