Default How much can I tow?

Hey everyone, I don't post much here, but I have a question for you. I have a 2003 Durango with a 4.7l V8. I have three young boys, along with the wife and I, and am wanting to get a camper. I have been looking at a lot of campers(travel trailers) online and want one with as much room as possible for all of us, but still towable with my Durango. Any advice for me?

Thanks

I think you should be able to pull 6000lbs comfortably you could go up to 8000lbs as long as it has trailer brakes but if you hit the mountains much it would be a strain on the durango but it could be done..... happy camping..... hope this helped

Thanks, I live in Nebraska so there won't be much of any hill pulling. And most of the trips will be keep under around 150miles more than likely.

Also, do I go by the GVWR listed on the camper or the actual weight? I see it listed seperately on most of the listings

Actual weight plus any cargo that you might add.... gvwr is most likely what the camper can hold weight wise.... gross vehicle weight rating includes what it will hold fully loaded so you can figure that in as well if you plan to put alot in it..... plus im not sure what the laws are where you live but here in south carolina if you have a trailer that weighs more than or has a gvwr over 10,000 you have to have cdl's to pull it.... so if it weighs 7,500 but has a gvwr of 10,500 you would still be required to have cdl's...... something to look into for your state laws

Not only motor but brakes. Check door for gcwr. That's gross combination weight. Truck and all BS in the truck and trailer combination. And brakes suck on Durangos I know.
