98 Durango won't start... please help...

So I'm trying to help my friend he just got from being deployed and doesn't have a lot of money so we are trying to fix this ourselves. He has a 98 durango and the rear wiper stayed on and drained the battery. I recharged the battery and now the truck just cranks over. I tried to connect a scanner to the ODB port and it can't connect to the truck. I don't hear the fuel pump kicking in either. I'm not sure where I should start to trouble shoot. From what I've read it can be the crank sensor, cam sensor, ECM or fuel pump. I also read that these can get messed up when you charge the battery from to much amperage. Any help would be appreciated.

If it was fine before the battery went dead the battery is probably the problem.

It will crank over til sunday but wont start, I don't think its the battery.

That doesn't mean it's not the battery. Was the truck fine before the battery when dead?

Yes the truck was fine. So please explain how it's the battery?

The computers can be very picky about the batteries. If they're weak (which is probably the case here) or even if there isn't a good connection to the battery all kinds of goofy things can happen with the computer including keeping it from running.

Thanks I'll start there first.

Try another battery that you know is good and it will probably be fine.

Ok thanks :)

Installed a new battery and it still just cranks over and doesn't start. I checked all the fuses and relays and they are fine. I'm still not able to read the cars computer with my scan tool. I have a feeling that the ECM is dead. When I go to start the vehicle none of the gauges move, like they are not getting any power. This is puzzling as the fuse for the dash is good. Should I look at getting a new ECM?
