Default Shudder

Hello good people.

I am struggling to figure out which way to go. I have a 2001 Durango with the 5.9 auto and 115,000 miles. It has developed what I would call a shudder. Not specific to a certain speed or gear. It idles smooth as silk and holds rpm and shifts fine. I don't notice any trans slippage and the tach is very steady going down the road. No surging or jumping gears. Five months ago I did change the trans fluid and filter using Valvoline ATF+4. All was well until the last few weeks with the problem progressing. No cel lights warning on the dash. So it is confusing me and I wondered if anyone had any ideas. Thank you kindly

I'm assuming it is 4x4. If so, check the front drive shaft at the transfer case. The front of the front driveshaft is a normal u-joint, The rear is a CV like joint and is prone to failing. I replaced mine with a re-manned driveshaft that has a u-joint at both ends and I am very happy with it.

While you are crawling around under there, check the fluid level of the transfer case. It has a separate reservoir that the tranny. There are 2 plugs on the back side. Remove the upper and fill until fluid runs out.
