I have a 99' Dodge Durango 4.9 l.
I have not driven it for 3 years. So the other day I decided to get it up and running. I turned the key and hmm-mm what a sound. Runs like a charm.
The only thing that doesn't work is the right front blinker. It has 2 lights in the front (The outside one isn't working, so I get that FAST BLINKER SYNDROME). I tried to open the screw from the front of the car between blinker and headlights to get to the bulb. But it isn't moving at all because the screwdriver doesn't make any contact because the screw is busted with no contacts to get a grip. So I tried with pliers to turn the screw from the outside. But no success.
So I tried from the bottom of the car. But there isn't much room to work with. What I found out though is, when I wiggle the socket the lamp is in, the blinker works (normal blinking speed). When I wiggle the cables that lead to the socket, it makes no difference. My guess is the bulb contacts, or the bulb is loose?
When I wiggle the socket and the blinker works, it stops after a short drive because of the movement (going back to fast blinking).
Is there a way to eliminate the right bulb out of the electric circuit so it just blinks normal (not fast), since there are 2 bulbs in the front and I really don't need that 2nd?
Also my battery gets drained when the car stands for 2 days without driving, so I want to build in a switch that leads to the interior so I can switch of the battery. I've done that before on a different car. The question is, that there are 3 cables to the battery. One to the Ground (Black) and 2 to the Power Part (red) Which cable do I connect the switch to?

first, i will start by saying its a 4.7l not a 4.9l
Second, you know that the screw is a T-10 torx bit and not a standard screwdriver right? if so, then in the passed i have had luck getting a stripped torx out by going up to the next size (T-15?) and shoving it in. Then replacing it with a new screw. You could also maybe get it with a easy out. I have had success that way too....
As for eliminating the bulb... I am not sure where you live but, i don't think there is a "Legal" way to do it in most state... it would be best just to fix it right.
It would also be best to figure out what is causing the battery drain and quite easy to do. All you have to do is put a multi-meter on the battery and read the Ohms... then start pulling fuses till you reach a reading of next to nothing, then you know that draw is on that circuit... but, if you must install a switch, you wanna use the red wire going into the black box (PDC) next to the battery.. the other red goes straight to the starter..
Like oldschool said, there's no 4.9L engine. In 99 there was the 5.2L and the 5.9L, unless you have the very rare 3.9L v6 but they made less than 100 of those. If you can't get the screw off (torx 10) you can just remove the whole headlight. You can get the 2 bolts that are towards the inside of the truck by moving the rubber seal from the side of the light and using a long extension and a 10mm socket. To get the 3rd bolt you'll have to lay down and reach up through the bumper behind the fog light and get a 10mm box wrench on it.
