Thermostat and Coolant
Just received my 180 thermostat from Jet and installed it. I have a couple of questions. My old 195 thermostat had a nipple out the back (see photo). The 180 tstat did not have this. Is this right? Also I drained my coolant and specifications show my 2000 4.7 Durango takes 14.1 qts. I put 2 gallons in and it was full. I thought I had drained it all. What am I missing here?
the 'nipple' out the back is part of the bypass cooling system it controls the flow through the block which allows the engine block to be at a more consistent temperature, it is kind of important
also the 4.7 is quite happy w/ a 195 stat the 180 is not an advisable swap on that engine.
if the system was full after 2 gallons you need to burp it, it WILL eventually take all of it just have to be patient and heat cycle it patiently to get it all in (some will go into the expansion tank as well)
