Default 2002 sxt 4.7L transfer case troubles??

Hey out there,1st post.. here goes..i have an 02 Durango sxt 4.7,right now its in dire need of an upper ball joint(pass side) and front pads..earlier today I was on the highway and when I lowered the radio I heard a grinding, dragging sound,i thought I had something stuck in my under carriage so stopped looked and found nothing, took side roads home grindin all the way,if I didn't have to bring my son home I wouldn't have driven it again until I could get a better look.but I had to so when I went to leave the drive way just for the hell of it I switched into 4x4 and it stopped grinding, back in 2 and its still grinding, anyone else had this issue?love to be able to just dive in next weekend and do the ball joints, pads and hopefully not a transfer case...thanks in advance for your time..Greg

I was also chasing the grinding. After replacing both CV axles and wheel bearing hubs the grinding was still there. It turned out to be the front drive shaft!

+1 on that. Me and a buddy were chasing that same grinding noise on one of our Durango's and after rebuilding the transfer case, and still having the grinding, we found it to be a broken front drive shaft, where the shaft goes into the bearing thing
