Default bad ac clutch?

My 01 Durangos ac isnt working. I tried to charge it in my driveway and when the ac engaged it would just click repeatedly, then stop and click again... Whats wrong with it?

It's gonna be hard to tell exactly what's wrong without a real set of gauges.

i agree its low on freon... with it being that low, chances are there is a leak somewhere in the system and putting freon in it is just gonna be a waste of money at this point. If you don't have the proper tools and gauges i would say get it into a shop where they can properly find the leak and charge it to the correct level.
