Default tranmission fluid for 98 w/5.2L

no idea wether the former owners replaced the original transmission, as i know alot of people have done, if i find out its stock, what fluid does everyone use/recommend too refill it with when i get the gasket and filter replace?

its got about 230000 on it, and i would like too see a few more miles out of it...

i have read online that atf3 was what it called for, but its unavailable now in stores locally and alot of people have posted online that the atf4 can ruin the transmissions in the 1st gen durangos.... is that true?

not knowlegable about transmissions here, trying too learn all i can.

thanks!

ABSOLUTELY FALSE! ATF+4 is if you wanna call it the "upgraded" version on ATF+3. Using anything but ATF+4 in a dodge transmission will kill it...

As for brand to use, its up to you as long as its ATF+4... I personally use Valvoline Full Synthetic ATF+4 in mine.

Here is a link to a list of brands that are Chrysler approved ~> http://www.centerforqa.com/licensedatf4brands.html

Not a problem, at least you asked rather than doing whatever and blowing it up.. My dad used to tell me the only thing stupid about questions is the fact that you didn't ask it when you had a chance to.
