Pulling a car on a trailer?
Far as I know all Durangos have a tranny cooler, the difference being that with the HD service package (also the tow package) it used an auxiliary cooler, and the regular setup used one built into the radiator.
Just looked. Sticker says 3.55 gears. As for hills, I've never been there so I'm not sure.
So I'm guessing that it will be too much for my Durango? Sux, cause now I have to debate on renting a truck AND trailer or just a trailer and borrow a truck.
I've got 185,000 miles on her now, I don't want to overwork it and break something.

You could still tow with the 3.55 gearing, just that the 3.92 gearing is better... If i was you i would add a aux trans cooler and just take it easy. You can buy the coolers almost anywhere for $30-$50 and there super easy to install..
As for hills, IIRC there are a few going through Virginia depending on what route you take... BTW if you need any local advise/information feel free to ask... i live 20 mins south of Carlisle...

When I take I-77 & I-79 from SC to PA there are a good bit of steep mountains in both Virginia and West Virginia.
I thought so ... i just could not remember because it has been a long time since i took a trip down to Georgia. Last time i took the trip was in my parents Dodge station wagon and Ronald Reagan was the president...
Not sure what the trailer weighs, but the car is around 3600 lbs I think. A buddy of mine who's been a dodge mechanic said it should be fine and just take it easy on the trip and don't go over 60. I'm actually going to be using his trailer and he said its lightweight.
My question, what is your full trailer pulling set up? I assume it will be a tandem axle trailer and such, but do you have good guess as to how much weight the trailer and car will be, and how much tongue wait there will be? I know your engine can hand that load with your ratio, but I'm always pulling cars and trucks with mine.
I don't foresee a problem at all, except putting too much weight on your rear end. Check your tags on your driver door as far as tow rating go, and abide by it. That is the SAFE number, so don't think that anything above that will break something. You've got the power train to pull just like a full size dodge ram 1500, just not the rear end.
