Default 1596 and 0302 Codes

Okay...it flooded here yesterday. I was caught in a flash flood and drove my 2000 Durango (aka Big Mama) through about 1.5 feet of water...several times. Not good I know. This morning she ran fine, but this afternoon it was running rather rough around 40-45 mph. Parked it, fixed supper and then went to run some errands. The check engine light came on and I checked the codes, P1596 (Speed Control Switch something) and P0302 misfire on #2.

Couple of questions: 1) driving through the water probably caused this correct? 2) will it dry out by itself and 3) is it okay to drive?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try clearing the codes and see if the codes return after a drive cycle.

I have Big Mama in the shop this morning. Rough ride was getting worse, but no new codes. Oh well......at least I am covered by flood insurance!

1.5 feet of water would have gotten into a bunch of external sensors under there it is possible that you shorted one or more of those connections, which could have damaged not only the PCM but anything else on the same circuit. Now in theory these plugs ARE sealed, however they are sealed against splashing not necessarily against submerssion, and the with the age of the vehicle the seals could be weak/leaking.

not trying to scare you or anything just giving you the run down

Replaced all 8 plugs, 4 coils (4 were fine) and the starter. Running like a champ again.
