Thumping in the front end
I have a 2000 Dodge Durango RT 4X4 all-wheel drive with a 5.9 (360) in it and about 155,000 miles on it. I have noticed a thumping sound in the front end when driving. It varies whit the speed at which you are going, but doesn’t seem to change when turning. It’s just a thump, thump, thump, thump, thump as you drive. I can feel it a little bit in the wheel but not much. I checked the u-joints and couldn’t find any that felt bad. It only does it as you are moving so it has to be something with the drive, but what? The transmissions was rebuild about a year ago for the second time, but the shop went out of business, so I can’t go back and ask them.
