A couple days ago, a friend of mine slammed my front passenger door and the window slid down a couple of inches. When I used the switch to raise it, I could hear the motor turn, but the window didnt move. It is now completely loose and falls whenever I move the door or the car.
I am going to try to fix this myself, so;
Besides removing screws and clips, what do I need to do to remove the inside panel of the door?
What most commonly breaks in the window mechanism?
Would a replacement part be available at an Advance Autoparts or similar?
Any other advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm going to attempt to remove the door panel now to try and find something broken.
Oh, and its a 2002 SLT model.

You should just have to undo the screws, clips, and then wiring connectors, then it should come off. One of the cable guides probably broke. You'll probably have to get a whole new mechanism.

Alright, I removed the door panel, took a look at the mechanism and found some broken parts. After fiddling with it for a while, I'm pretty sure I know how it works. One issue: how do you remove the mechanism? I see the bolts attaching it to the door, but it seems too big to be removed from the holes in the door.
I'll continue after more research about the mechanism itself.

 

I actually bought a new one at a salvage yard.

 

I don't remember off the top of my head, but there are service manuals in the diy thread in this second.

 

Well, bought a new mechanism, installed it, and everything works great now.

I've done all four windows at least once. Recenty put in the extra money to buy new from oreilly with lifetime warrenty, intead of used. They even had one in stock!

 

I'm getting ready to replace my third driver side front regulator. I'm considering getting it new for the warranty, but its $90 from AutoZone versus $35 online. Anyone think the warranty is actually worth the extra bucks?
