Keep the 195 t-stat for the 4.7. The 180 is fine for the 5.2 and 5.9 because that's what they were originally designed for (the 19* was just for emissions).

Guys good call on the 180 t-stat and the motor running rich to reach the 195. Also, where is the anti-drain back valve located on the tranny line? I've changed both lines in the past and didnt notice any type anti drain back valve....if I'm reading correctly the mutual agreement is to cut the tranny lines off the radiator and re-route them to an independant tranny cooler. Where would the aux filter go on the pressure or return line?

Pretty sure all durangos (at least 01+) have separate tranny coolers. Mine has the HD tow package so not sure how that differes but as far as I know there is no split radiator setup. Just its own personal radiator (tranny cooler) located infront of the main radiator.

Isn't that the evaporator for the a/c?

Check valve delete is in a bunch of threads, maybe even the DIY section. Its not a very big (size of a "c" battery) located on the lines coming from your rad. And the aux. cooler needs both supply and return lines. Derale makes some pretty cool ones.

Not true. Mines an '02 and I got the dual rad. The only rad mine has in front of it is the ac condenser. I have seen Durangos with the aux cooler from factory, but I believe it only came with the HD tow package.

As for where to mount the aux cooler, I'm not too sure, maybe head to your local junkyard, find one with the tranny cooler up front and take the design from that. I've never installed an aux cooler before.

You are correct, the aux cooler was part of the HD tow package.

My Durango has the HD tow package so I have 5 or 6 radiators/coolers up front.

Anywho, also make sure you tow with OD off.

Thanks for all the input guys! I'm going to try the tranny cooler and will post an update. I figure it cant hurt to put an actual tranny cooler in. I'm being told that the needle being in the middle of the temp guage is actually within the normal operating range for the 4.7? unless someone out there has any other real data to show otherwise, I'm going to go with needle in middle is normal.
