I Think I Killed It!
So I was driving my 98 Durango in a mud pit, when i went to drive up the hill to leave I noticed that all the power was gone. I must have drawn water into the intake. Since then there is a pretty loud knocking sound coming from the engine. Also my oil pressure gauge goes in and out, it's normal and then it goes to zero and it will do this all day long, back and forth.(No I am not driving it everywhere) This could be something completely different though. The knocking seems to be coming from the bottom rear portion of the engine. It also gets louder when the tranny is about to shift gears. Its an automatic. I changed the oil and it did nothing(Not saying that it would). I hope that it's not dead or going to die. I was just wondering if anybody knows what could be wrong with it.
Thanks

Sounds like you put strain on the rod bearings. Oil shoots through your rod bearings to lubricate them. There is a small clearance between the crank shaft and the bearings, as the oil shoots through it takes pressure to do so. This is were you get your oil pressure. If you broke a bolt on one of your rod bearings or one came loose you will loose your oil pressure and your bottom of the rod will smack into your crank. This is were I think your sound is coming from! The loss of power is that your truck motor is off balance and you probably have a dead cylinder. As the bearing moves in there this is why your pressure is falling and climbing in sporadic ways. Make sure you check your main bearings too. Don't run it any more tell you take a good look at what you got. You just might finish off your motor.
I think you need to drop your oil pan and take a good look inside.[sm=bounceybounce.gif]

i have a 98 durango and i took mine through a mud pit too and it did sort of the same thing it bucked and stalled and shut off and then wouldnt start. so i got on the phone and called a friend who works at the local dodge dealer and had him look at it in the pit and he just said that the mud and the water in the pit sprayed up into the engine and got something elctrical wet. he said it was prolly spark plugs but anyways a chrome mesh billet grille should keep majority of the water out
