Default 98 dodge durango steering issues

Ok I trade my 2001 dodge stratus on a 1998 dodge durango slt....I like the durango but it has some issues I am hoping you guys can help me. The steering in it is really loose, like I mean you barley move it a half of a inch your in the other lane on the verge of rolling cuz it just goes!!! What would cause this? the other thing when you start it something in the steering wheel makes a god awful grow sounds like gears on gears any idea why?

Sounds like a trip to the dealer. Sounds unsafe to me.

I rebuilt my whole front end. Best $1,500 I spent on the truck..minus the $1,600 price tag. Drives brand new now.

The front ends of these durangos are trash. You probably have a whole list of bad or worn parts because people are too cheap these days to fully maintain their vehicle.. You know, the tool that drives them to work and to the mall, yeah those people.

I would check the intermediate shaft. Just changed one on my wifes 02 Durango and it now drives like a new one
