Need A Diagnosis
So, I am driving this morning in the frigid cold, and suddenly, something starts whining VERY loudly! I pulled into a parking lot, lifted the hood, and there is nothing leaking, or flapping around.
It runs, heats, accelerates, but sounds like a fan missing a belt.
Only hear it on acceleration, the sound speeds up as the truck does, and slows down as the truck does.
At higher speed, could almost be equivalent to a card in the spokes of a bicycle.
COULD THIS BE TRANNY? *sigh*

It could be other couple of other things other than the tranny. Being winter with cinders and such all over the road something could have got somewhere that it shouldn't be. I'd jack up the front and and spin the wheels, then do the same with the back end. Try doing it with the transfer case in neutral and engaged (make sure you block the wheels on the ground) and you should be able to rule out where the noise isn't coming from at least.
That's good news. Who knows where salt and cinders could have gotten and made noise. Last December when I was driving from PA to SC a small piece of my one brake pad flaked off and was making noise in the wheel area. I thought I had a bearing issue, but was glad to just have to replace the brake pads (under warranty too). A similar thing happened to my grandparents Charger this summer when we were going from Phoenix back to San Diego, a rock get in between the brake disc and the heat shield and was making noise for a couple miles before we realized what it was.
Nope, noise was back today. Took my dad for a ride and he says it sounds like something is rubbing. Noise sounds like an airplane. So, now it is up on stands till I can get someone to come and see what I can't see. Who knows when that will be.
