Default Thicker oil?

Almost every 3000-4000 miles my motor starts clattering, once I get the oil changed its fine, but I use to go about 5000 miles with my synthetic oil changes. Im running 5w30 right now, can I go up to 10w or 15w? Whats your suggestion? Id there an additive I can put in as well? Ive got almost 190,000 miles on the motor right now and Im hoping its not going to bite the dust anytime soon.

I personally only use 5W in the cold of winter and 10W the rest of the time in my 5.9
Change my oil every 3-4 thousand.

A friend of mine had the problem with a 396 years ago. GM told him to run a can of STP in the motor every other oil change. If each time it will be too much. Good luck...

Mine starts fine, but it just rattles like crazy. It does just fine with fresh oil, but once the oil is getting closer to 3000 miles, it just starts clattering and gets worse. It shouldnt do that and Im wondering since it has close to 200,000 miles, if I can go with a heavier weight? It wont hurt anything will it? Its my Daily Driver.

the 4.7 calls for 5w30 all year round, and they all have a lifter tick on cold starts, it should go away after a minute or so of idling. 10w30 will make the clatter worse as the oil will be thicker on a cold start and take longer to pump up to the valve train

Its never rattled before, no even on start ups. Its just recently. And, today on my way home from work, the oil pressure was going down to that 1st line when at idle and back to normal on acceleration. Drove straight in to a shop and got a high mileage oil change and 10w-30. they think I may be burning a little oil so Im gonna keep an eye on it. They also said I need tires (which I knew) and a front tie rod, shocks and a battery! UGH!! When it rains it pours......

So anyways, no more rattle and we'll see how it does from here.....
