Default Spare Tire - Wheel Winch

Anyone know what size head is on the bolts that holds the "wheel winch" in place underneath?

It is a "blind feel" and I am not sure you can get a socket in there.

I am needing to replace my wheel winch thanks to the nice folks at Belle Tire. First they stripped off the tabs on the "crank". Then, after they welded a nut on there to fix that issue, they winch stopped winding up.

I thought it was a 17mm, but I'd have to get back under it to check for you. I also have a 99', but it should be the same.

That would be greatly appreciated. Laying in the snow and ice last night to try and "ratchet strap" the spare up there was a "no go" (and I could really use the cargo space the spare is taking up)

I'll put a rush on it. I've just gotta finish some things up here In the house. It's cold down here in south Texas, but ain't nothin compared to snow! I'll get back on here as soon as I found out for you. I hope it's the same for you, but I'll try to include pictures if I can.

Okay, I can't find my tire iron to drop the spare anywhere. If I find it, I'll be able to drop the tire to look at the bolts.

No worries.

After posting about my "temp tire holder" attempt on Twitter, I got a call from the local tire shop (that broke it). They have agreed to replace the wheel winch for me. It will cost me $75 but that is less than what I would pay for a new one, and slightly more than I would pay for a used one. It is less than their tire shop's "dealer pricing" too. Best part is I do not have to do the labor....and if they screw something up (again) then they are on the hook for it. Now I just have to find the time to go in and have it done.

Thanks for your help.

Hope you find your tire iron in case the emergency arises.
