hey everyone. so ive tried getting an answer to this question on a couple other forums but the answers seem to be either guesses or third hand info so im hoping you guys can help me out.
i have a 2002 durango rt 5.9L 360 magnum engine with awd. my long term build plan is to turn this thing into a real head turner (im tired of seeing yukons, escalades, and f-150s). it will be a fair weather driver, street night drager and show vehicle. anyway i want to build the engine as a twin turbo running around 16 lbs of boost and 600+ hp/trq (yes i know it will be expensive). so my question is CAN THESE THINGS BE TUNED FOR THIS. keep in mind that i need to pass a basic safety inspection so no stand-alone and the check engine light cant be on. any help would be greatly appreciated and the more details the better.

 

Do a hemi swap. Or a 5.9 swap.

 

He already has the 5.9. A hemi swap though would put your base power closer to your goals. As for tuning, get ahold of hemifever and tell him your plans, and see what he says. He is one of the best tuners for our motors, and should be able to work with you for a custom tune.

If you are wanting to do twins for te wow factor then ok. But if you are just trying to hit 600 hp there are probably better ways to do it. A well built 408 stoker will put you at 450 +hp, then slap a supercharger on it, or a single turbo. I think twins would be highly difficult to tune, but that's just my guess. And at those power levels, your motor will have to be built pretty tough, and obviously your transmission too.

 

There's tons of stuff you can do if you've got the cash. I'd start with a having it bored and stroked to 408ci and go from there. There are a couple of guys running 408s around here and durangoclub.com. One standing out in my mind is Heavy D, he's got somewhere in the neighborhood of 700hp if I remember right.

 

5.9 Cummins. Not gas

a 5.9 CTD 4BT would be a better choice tho.. no firewall modification (unlike the 6BT used in the link above).

as to the hemi swap; i would love to but im trying to do as little fab work as possible and that sounds difficult unless someone already offers motor mount conversions. does hemifever tune non-hemis?
i read in an article online from mopar muscle that a guy from Ida automotive cracked these comps with a piggyback and got something like 25 hp and 60 f/trq from a stock 360. http://www.moparmusclemagazine.com/t...411_emc_tuner/ ill probably shoot him an e-mail to pick his brain. plus hes only in jersey which is only 6 hrs or so from me and hes got an awd dyno.

kinda off topic and ill do a search but will a 340 drop in place of my 360 without modification. mopar offers a true race block with 4 bolt mains that i may need with this power but only as a 340. ill call and see if it really has to be a dry sump only if need be.
