High Altitude-Check engine light
Hi All! I have a 1999 Durango that whenever we head through the mountains the check engine light comes on-the first time it happened was without a load and the second time was with a pop-up tent trailer.
I can't remember what the code was, but when we replaced a spark plug on cylinder 6 - it seemed to help some. I also have lots of "gunk" on that cylinder as well.
We are getting ready for another road trip and want to have my Durango serviced first but was hoping someone out there had some suggestions?
Thanks!

I've only had the Durango up to 9,000', with no issues, but I have had my Jeep (with '02 GM 4.3L V6 motor) up to 12,000+' in Colorado. Any time I got above the tree line, the CEL comes on. The code related to the MAP sensor, which made sense. Which code you got is a big part of the answer to your question. If I wait long enough after getting back to lower altitudes, it goes out on it's own. Sometimes I just reset it, since I have a OBDII tool with me in the Jeep.
