I have 2002 dodge durango awd 4x4 with the 4.7. i have a horrific metal on metal grinding sound from the drivers front wheel area we change brake pads, we changed the wheel bearing thinking it was that and it didnt make a difference, it makes the sound when accelerating mainly when it first started and now it does it when coasting off gas pedal sometimes as well. Just recently its starting to shutter the steering wheel whenever it wants when only on the accelerator. My husband is a mechanic and weve been under this truck and can not fig out what it is for the life of us, were guessing maybe cv axle but not 100% sure but its slowly getting worse its been like this for months now, it does not affect steering or driving just a super obnoxious sound.

 

I did everything you guys did on my 02! Happened to be the front driveshaft after all the parts throwing. You may be able to visually check but if you get it up on blocks that should confirm. Good Luck!

 

Sounds like the cv axle is the issue to me.
