Default 2001 durango r/t tranny problem!

ok so im having a problem with my 2001 durango R/T. the shifter has been really hard to shift, and yesterday i couldnt start it in park only in neutral, took the column apart to see if there was anything wrong there and nothing wrong, now when i go from park to drive it doesnt go back to park, stays in drive i have to manually put it in park, when i do that it will start in park, so it cant be the neutral saftey switch, was thinking it was the cable but i will go from park to 1st gear and thats it. im asking could that been the linkage inside the tranny? if so is it an easy fix and where to get parts? thank you.

If you can manually put it in park then it would have to be either the cable or the bracket the cable connects to at the trans is loose and slipping around.. Internally there is no "linkage" per say that could break, its just valves that move the pressure to allow it to go to the proper position. If that would fail you would 1) have to replace the whole valve body and 2) would loose all gears.

If i had to make a guess i would say the bolt for the bracket rusted through and broke so its not as tight and on occasion slips.
