I have a 1999 Dodge Durango with 116k I did a tune up plugs, wires and filter. The cap and rotor look fine no carbon build up and ect. I just put in a new IAC motor a few minutes ago, set it and still does the same thing. It has a rough idle, doesn't want to die just rough. Starting in the morning takes a few extra cranks. when you first start it, it runs good, higher idle it seems to smooth out, same with when you have the defrost on. Also the acceleration is kind of odd, you can step on it it feels like it has a studder then kicks in kind of hard to explain. At higher speeds it kicks in fine. Does seem to lack power. Not an expert at all and this is the first time owning a Dodge.

Sounds like it could be the camshaft or crankshaft sensor going bad.

 

Okay, if it helps any it is running rich. I have done the fuel additive with no change. Also i'm getting about 8-10 MPG. Have replaced the 02 sensor.

 

the idle will be higher w/ the defrosters on, it runs the a/c which steps up the idle,

as to rough idle, when you did the tune up did you check the gap on the plugs? also when you replace any electrical sensor did you disconnect the battery? doing this helps the computer relearn the new sensor faster

 

I had my dad put in all the stuff he normally gaps them, I will have him check it in the morning. Pretty sure we did though. With the new IAC motor in I noticed a better response when accelerating, but still has the odd studder..

 

Have you checked your fuel pressure as well. A simple task if the proper tools are around. Could be a faulty injector as well just throwing ideas. keep us posted.
