Default My 2002 Durango starts but wont stay on

I recently had my Durango overheat i drained the battery and replaced it with a new one. After putting in the new one i have been trying to start the the Durango but it turns on when i push the gas pedal it will slowly start then it will turn off when i take my foot off the pedal. If any one has a solution to this problem please help. Thanks in advance.

Wow. So you overheated it, ruined one battery trying to start it, bought another one and it still won't start? Let's back up and you carefully explain the situation. What caused the overheat? Have you corrected that? Is there coolant in the engine? How bad did it overheat? Being as detailed as possible will help us help you better. Being vague only leads to guesses and more questions from us. This is a good read for first time posters on an automotive forum. Welcome aboard.

When it overheated i was driving home from work i noticed the check gauges light came on when i got to my home i opened the hood a saw that there was a leak in on of the hoses. I replaced and filled it with new coolant. Then tried to start it but it drained the battery and tried to jump it and then took it to autozone to have it charged. When i picked it up they said after charging to 100% within two hours it went back to 60%. So i bought a new battery and put it on.Since then i have been trying to start it and it will start with me pressing the gas pedal before turning the key to start. After i let run for a while with my foot on the gas pedal it stays on. But if try to release to shift into drive it turns off. I have doing this daily for about 5 days and it will still not stay on.

Check engine light on? Have you let it sit there and idle and look/listen for any unusual noises, leaks? etc. Thanks for the additional info.

what you are describing sounds like a classic textbook example of a bad IAC motor, i would change that out and see what happens

Yeah, sounds like it could be the IAC or maybe even bad battery connections. It would be nice to know which engine too.

+1 on the engine.

Also if the battery is low it will want to quit, put a charger on it or let her run for a bit and re-charge it.
